It’s official! The Kate and William wedding is on. Kate Middleton will marry Prince William at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, in what will be the royal wedding of the century. Likely even to outshine William’s father’s wedding to his mother in 1981.
Prince William’s father (Prince Charles) wed Diana at St. Paul’s Cathedral and agin his wedding to his second wife, Camilla, in 2005 was also at St. Paul’s (and co-incidentally also in April) so the choice of Westminster Abbey seems even more amazing.

Kate and William Wedding
So momentous is the Kate and William wedding that the government have declared a public holiday to celebrate. The Prime Minister has said that “We want to mark the day as one of national celebration. A public holiday will ensure the most people possible will have a chance to celebrate on the day.”
This additional public holiday, so close to Easter, will give UK citizens two, four-day, public holidays on two consecutive weekends. Probably a good thing as I can see more than a few celebratory drinks being had that week!
Kate and William chose Westminster Abbey for their wedding venue and the day which is the Feast of St. Catherine. (Kate will become Princess Catherine when she marries William).
Clearly a lot of thought had gone into this occasion and the couple seem to be in control which will be a blessing. Pressures on individuals within the royal family have been given a lot of bad press especially since the Princess Diana tragic accident. It seems that the younger royals are getting more of a say in their own lives. This is probably a very good thing for William as a man who could one day be King.
Of course with thousands or well wishers and revellers the security will be a major challenge and apparently the SAS have been given orders to be involved in Kate and Williams wedding. That will probably not deter thousands of overseas visitors from both the the Commonwealth and other countries. The British Royal family is held in very high regard in many countries other than the UK.

The Kate and William royal wedding is sure to be quite a culinary affair, especially now that former royal chef Darren McGrady has made a few predictions about the menu for this spectacular event. Having been the chef when William and Edward were growing up, he knows all of William’s favourite dishes and is hinting that some of them might make their way into the royal wedding meal.
People reports McGrady’s preliminary plan for the wedding fair courses. He says that after the 11 a.m. ceremony, the vip guests will head to Buckingham Palace for “champagne, canapés, and heavy h’ors d’oeuvres, such as smoked salmon, paté, and mini sausage rolls (pigs in blankets).
For the evening reception, there will most likely be a stunning showcase of British food, including one of William’s favourites, cottage pie. This meal will be for friends, family, and visiting heads of states.
When it comes to the menu, Prince William and Kate are having e a much more modern wedding meal than that of Princess Diana. Instead of reverting back to the outdated seven-course wedding meal, they are going to be doing something a bit more up to date. William always seems keen to present a much more modern image of the royal family and this auspicious occasion is no different.
The royal family may be one of the oldest traditions in Britain, but with simple fares, a few showcase dishes, and some of William’s favourites, Prince William and Kate’s wedding menu will show guests a more modern twist on a traditional ceremony.
